Blackberry without BIS?

i want to buy a Blackberry Torch 9800, but i want to buy it outright and without a plan. Is there a major difference using it without BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) , im not interesting in using email services, i just want to be able to text, call and use facebook on it. so in there a need to get a BIS plan or not ?
